Bass guitars, electric bass, or simply bass are the lowest-pitched members of the guitar family. Similar in appearance and structure to electric and acoustic guitars, it is a plucked string instrument with a long neck and scale, usually with 4-6 strings or courses. Since the mid-1950s, bass guitar has largely replaced the popular music contrabass. 4-string basses are usually tuned in the same way as contrabass.
